Just a few short months ago, Skrillex released his much anticipated Recess album. After its successful reception, it was only a matter of time before the title track received official remix treatment. “Recess” is a glitchy, bouncy collaboration with Kill The Noise (featuring Fatman Scoop and Michael Angelakos). The original features catchy vocals juxtaposed with a wonky, hollow drop that begs to be re-imagined by other producers.
All four tracks on Recess Remixes take advantage of the original’s weird and vibrant tone. Milo & Otis kick it off with twang over a dirty, scaling melody. Valentino Khan’s take on the song is primal yet clubby, and forgoes the upbeat lyrics of its predecessor. Ape Drums pushes the echoed sound of the original even further while also exploring several different beats as the song progresses. The EP is topped off with bass maestro Flux Pavilion’s signature grime.
