An exciting new feature of this year’s TomorrowWorld is Liquified Promotions’ Atlanta stage that will feature local artists that have grown to national prominence. From three o’clock to four on Sunday you can catch Halogen dropping a variety of heavy hitting tunes on the ATL stage and Your EDM had the chance to catch up with the guys so you can familiarize yourself with their rowdy vibes. What does it mean for you guys to be playing for such a large scale crowd in your home town?
We have gotten the opportunity to play so many sets already that we didn’t think possible. Liquified has played a big part in our careers so far and we have to give them props for running this city’s night life so well. The first set we played after rebranding was opening for a sold out Knife Party show, so we really love our friends and fans in the area and it’s been great to be a part of the growing scene here. We don’t see it as much as a home town show because TommorowWorld has such a huge pull for people around the globe. However it is very convenient and I’m sure we will run into many familiar faces.
As house moved off into big reverbs and deep bass sounds, what drives you to stay on the perimeter with electro house?
I think electro house is sort of where both of our styles meet actually. So I think its less about swaying from following trends and more about sticking true to who we are as musicians. I can honestly say we both appreaciate all forms of dance music and do play a wide range within our sets. However, Electro House is currently our forte and we both agree it is really fun to play live because of the energy it brings. We are trying to make a statement in terms of the Halogen Brand when it comes to electro house, but that doesn’t mean we are not open to experimentation down the road.
In a local sense, who were some of the house heads that you looked up to that helped introduce you to the scene, both musically and personally?
Atlanta is an extremely bass heavy scene so I do enjoy getting down to a heavier set but my love for house really came from going to Tiesto and Ultra in 2011. I will always cherish the memories of going to shows with my friends who introduced me to the scene and just hanging out and being stupid with them until the sun came up. I have to credit a lot of learning how to play proper supporting sets to DJ Danny M here. He really knows how to cater to a crowd while not overstepping when opening for some of the biggest acts in the world.
As sounds evolve and sound design and sampling becomes more complex, what kind of noises are exciting you at the moment?
Sound design is not something that I would particularly call “exciting”. I do think that we have stumbled upon a few sounds lately that we have literally hopped up in our chairs about. Most of them are just weird “acid” sounds, which Im hearing alot these days from people like Dyro and Henry Fong. The whole process of sound design is very time consuming and is not something you want to do when your roommate is around. The headaches are sometimes worth it though for sure.
In your productions, what is your strongest suit, and what would you like to improve upon?
Honestly, our strongest suit is being able to lay down the majority of our tracks in one sitting. It took us a while to get to that point, but now our thoughts transfer way faster and much easier. Production is something that will never allow you to stop learning new things. I think we need to refine our skills for different techiniques in almost every facet. It is important to seek quality in the little things.
