A few months ago, Deadmau5 streamed a 2-hour-long unadulterated techno set via live.deadmau5.com, and a week before that, in March, Joel pulled off his oh-so-infamous Ultra Set, which featured more techno tunes than the stage reserved for top 40s acts usually sees. So where was all the techno coming from? The first time we related Joel to techno is when he released a techno tune titled “Sunspot (White Space Conflict)” under his alternate alias testpilot a few months ago, and since then, we’ve been seeing a lot more of Joel’s techno side.
These days, Joel is touring Europe and the UK; visiting festivals like SW4 in London, Zurich Open Air in Opfikon, Switzerland, and the iTunes festival at Roundhouse in London. He’s also hitting a few clubs here and there, including his appearance yesterday at arguably one of the most famous venues in the world, Ibiza’s Amnesia. 
This wasn’t any ordinary show, however. Joel was there to play at Cream’s 20th anniversary celebration, a star-spangled line up which included power-houses by the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Eddie Halliwell, and Jordan Suckeley, who were all in the main room, and Tom Starr, James Dutton, and Deadmau5, who worked the terrace. Joel, who wasn’t in his usual progressive mood, played a set full of straight up techno.
“I personally feel like I gave a piece of me to Amnesia tonight, regardless of what big room tunes I didn’t play.” He also claimed that he “cleaned the foam up,” a reference, of course, to Paris Hilton’s “Foam & Diamonds” residency at Amnesia. As per his words on Twitter regarding the set, “[he’ll] get it in your hot little hands soon.”
