Illenium is without a doubt one of my favorite up-and-coming producers. And while he has generally stuck to the melodic dubstep side of things, he really stepped outside his own box on this one, quite admirable.
Illenium brought in the trap vibe on this one, replacing his kick snare rhythm for some hard-hitting 808s, but kept his signature melodic sound and it turned out brilliantly. Additionally, he added some of his own vocals, the deeper, more melancholic samples in the beginning. It actually took me a while to place the higher pitched vocal samples sitting in the background, but I finally got it… Plain White T’s – Hey There, Delilah. Quite the easter egg.
