With the planned breakup of Swedish House Mafia, CAZZETTE’s album being released exclusivley through Spotify, Joel Zimmerman proposing to Kat Von D, and Zedd releasing his first studio album, this has been one busy year! New music is constantly being thrown at us at an ever increasing rate. The genre is booming; especially here in the US. The Trap genre is still young in EDM; there are some really jaw-dropping songs, as well as a lot of garbage out there.
All in all, I am very pleased with the growing EDM culture and new artist arrivals to the scene. What worries me the most is the smaller, unknown producer(s) working his/her tail off night and day may never get a chance to have their music heard. There are so many established artists out there releasing so much material around the clock that it can make any EDM junky’s head spin. We, as a community, cannot forget the bedroom producer. It is perfectly fine to hear everyone’s favorite song come on at a show, but please make it your New Year’s Resolution to expand your horizons in electronica. You might surprise yourself and really find a true gem-of-an-artist, waiting to be discovered.
