I’ll be honest, I’ve had a downright shitty morning. But, thankfully with the help of some good house music, my mood is beginning to lift. I would argue that there are very few things more soothing to the soul than some straight up classic house music. So, as the weather heats up, treat yourself with Toolroom head honcho, Mark Knight’s rework of Basement Jaxx’s Never Say Never (featured on their upcoming album Junto).
As huge taste-makers in the house music scene, both Mark Knight and the Toolroom crew have been setting the standard for over a decade; marking their 11th year of operations in 2014. Following up to his previous release, ‘The Return of Wolfy’ Mark has delivered a remix that embodies his artistry and demeanor. Working within the creative context of Basement Jaxx, who are themselves one of the most inspired UK house musicians, Mark Knight delivers a tune that plucks at the core of classic house music. In this tune, chorded house keys meet with warm house plucks, stacking under soulful vocal samples and of course a dancey percussive groove. The mleodic vibe, is up to your interpretation: while the remix is soulful and somewhat morose it still drives with energy – perfect for late night drives and for moving bodies on the dance floor.
Mark Knight has a lot in store for us in the future working along side Rene Amesz and Adrian Hour – teasing at the possibility of an upcoming album. While we wait for the third installment of Mark’s Bullet EP and for the release of BJaxx’s Junto, be sure to check out and enjoy the remix below & grab a copy when it drops June 2nd.
