Introducing LAXX and His Twitch Music

LAXX has somewhat burst onto the scene over the past year; bringing his unique brand of ‘Twitch’ music to the bass scene and garnering the attention of some of the biggest players including Flux Pavilion, Benga and Mistajam. Having been signed to the highly regarded Never Say Die Records in the latter half of 2013, he went on to unleash his debut EP on the label in February of this year. Describing the four-track collection as “a sound I’ve been developing and immersing myself in for the last six months or longer”, ‘Step One’ is a remarkable fusion of styles and textures. The title track received a huge response across the live circuit, generating the same frenzied crowd reactions each and every time. The effortless impact of the bass drop is a masterclass in simplicity, and reflects the freshness in LAXX’s sound.

He enlisted drum and bass don Emperor to give his rework of ‘The Unknown’ – undisputedly taking his harmonized frenzy of styles to fierce new levels.

The debut EP certainly hit the right spot amongst his fast-expanding fan base, reaching the Number 1 spots in the Hip Hop, Dubstep and Drum & Bass releases charts on Beatport and climbing into to Dubstep Top Five overall.

The UK-based producer and DJ now progresses to his next release via Never Say Die, with a prompt follow up to ‘Step One’. ‘Step Two’ drops on 7th April, and its fair to say it is continues along the same intelligent and distinctive path as its predecessor. A contradiction of urgency and composure, the four-tracks provide an intense development; the LAXX ‘Twitch’ sound coming into full effect again. Remix duties are carried out by label mate MUST DIE! who is perhaps most similar musically to LAXX in the Never Say Die family.

The jittering vocal stabs of ‘Brainbug’ are advanced to a whirlwind of unremitting sound. Already highly anticipated, ‘Step Two’ itself draws on the minimalism of the original but engulfs you with more atmosphere and sensation. With DJ bookings beginning to pick up and no signs of slowing down creatively, LAXX is clearly assured in his sound at this early stage in his career, making his initial impact on the scene more remarkable. As the man himself says,

I want to keep people guessing, not knowing what is to come, and make tracks that make you take a step back and go ‘Woah’.

What we have seen so far certainly proves that LAXX is a force to be reckoned with; demolishing barriers one step at a time.
