You’d be forgiven for thinking the Skrillex AMA was ‘much ado about nothing’. Fans hoping for major announcements or stunning revelations must have been slightly disappointed. His post had divided reddit users as only 50% upvoted the AMA. Among the shower of downvotes, half way through the session one reddit user had replied, “YES! I FINALLY HEAR THE ANSWERS I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!” This came after times where it felt he was being vague or playing it safe.
Supposedly, this would lead to an underwhelming experience, overall. 
But you’d be wrong. Although lacking in announcements and professionalism, the AMA wasn’t lacking in fun. Because Sonny had never intended it to be a PR exercise or a chance to bolster his career. Perhaps, he just wanted to reach out to his fans and have some pleasant conversation. Certainly, Skrillex never held back his appreciation for his fans and was delighted to point out their enthusiasm and knowledge of all things Skrillex: “Honestly, this AMA is pretty fucking awesome.. sort of one of those moments where I really get to see the passion (for better or for worse) people have for their Skrillex opinions.. I’m thankful people care at all.. Something i don’t take for granted.”
He may have been a bit slow at typing but he had no problem at all with ‘shooting the sh*t’ with his fellow redditors, and he addressed everything from his iconic hair to that infamous ‘head-banging’ video: “Lol moving head is fine… Im so glad that moment got caught on camera though.. that was actually the first thought that came to my head after the pain chilled out.. i was like ‘FuK i hope somebody filmed that’…yes that shittt hurt for sure.”
Even when he could be busy promoting himself, Skrillex took time to promote a relatively unknown producer. A fan of his work, he states how he always loves innovators and kids who just make sick beats: “But i feel like just like anything it will come and go in waves as kids innovate…Check out this kid… making SICK tunes https://soundcloud.com/trollphace.”
Ultimately, the real story to be reported was Skrillex’s opinion on today’s music. In a passionate and honest statement, he reminds us to just be ourselves and remember not to take everything so seriously. Because, just like his AMA, it’s all supposed to be FUN. Skrillex still has much to learn and achieve, but he will always enjoy himself: “At the end of the day it’s DANCE music.. dancing is supposed to be fun. Dance music should be fun to… I don’t think it’s meant to be taken so seriously… it’s not politics. More so than a genre, I think success has to come with being open about your personality, doing YOU and not giving a FUCK what people have to say. Those are the people who catch my attention at least. I come form hardcore and punkrock.. I came from the uncool lunch tables. I feel like there’s this jock elitist mentality when it comes to dubstep in particular which is so against everything I stand for. BEING yourself, and not giving a fuck what others think. Not judging others.. For fuck sakes it’s just MUSIC. stop taking it so seriously and have fun.. And if you dont like something, then just fkn forget about it! :)”
