Michael Lang, one of the founders of the world renowned “Woodstock festival” in 1969, has teamed up with EDM promoters with plans on introducing a new age of music to Saugerties, NYC this summer. The project already received approval from the Saugerties Planning Board in December, but is still waiting for approvals from Ulster County and the state of New York. “It’s the first time anything’s been there since 1994,” Lang said.

Financed by Manhattan-based SFX Entertainment and organized by Denver-based promotion company MCP Presents, the festival would be a big one — hosting rock, electronic, indie and hip-hop music. MCP Presents have put on other popular EDM events such as Camp Bisco, TomorrowWorld, and Counterpoint, attracting established artists such as Skrillex, Bassnectar, Krewella, Madeon, Dillon Francis, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – just to name a few. The event can be expected to sell 20,000 to 25,000 tickets, with a maximum of 30,000 attendees, and with tickets costing anywhere from $150 to $200.

Tentatively speaking, the show would take place from July 10-13, host 500 artists, and include a roaming force of more than 300 private security guards. “We’re very excited about this,” Lang said, adding that the idea of more concerts in coming years is a solid possibility. County and state regulators seem to be on board, so far.

When it comes to music festivals, Woodstock is a pioneer in the field. The first ever Woodstock Festival took place from August 15-18 in 1969, and attracted 32 acts that performed in front of over 500,000 people. The 1969 Woodstock festival may just be the most famous music festival to have ever taken place. It was certainly a defining moment in music and pop culture history. So the fact that one of the co-founders of Woodstock, Michael Lang, is teaming up with modern powerhouse companies such as MCP Presents and SFX Entertainment is no to be taken lightly.
