The superstar DJ Pete Tong has been honoured with an MBE award, presented by Prince William at Buckingham Palace. The Radio 1 presenter was honoured for his illustrious career, from DJing at mobile discos to presenting the highly acclaimed Essential Mixes, in the New Years Honours List.
Pete Tong could be considered the BBC Radio 1 dance DJ. He is also known for his Internet radio streams, his record label FFRR Records and for his own performances at nightclubs and music festivals around the world. He is credited for being a, “global ambassador for electronic music.”
The infamous phrase, “It’s all gone Pete Tong”, is known as Cockney rhyming slang for, “It has all gone a bit wrong”. It’s All Gone Pete Tong is also the title of a 2004 film which portrays a DJ’s experiences with coming to terms with his EDM-inflicted deafness. Pete Tong does make a brief appearance.
For such a highly successful career, the expression does seem ironic. It couldn’t be further from the truth.
