With so many producers, releases and inspirations, there are a lot of different elements that lead to melodies, breakdowns and drops to sound the way they do. Similarities can arise almost inadvertently. That’s an inescapable fact. The use of certain chords, melodies, progressions might resemble that of another release, at times by mistake and sometimes, not so much. We listen to countless songs, remixes and originals every day and with that in mind we accept the potential likeness that two tracks might have. It happens, we are used to it. When people are solely surrounded by the same music every day, it is not that surprising that they might subconsciously use said music as inspiration, pulling it from some deep part of their musical minds. For that reason we often ignore such coincidences. Up to a point…
It has been brought to our attention that the breakdown melody of R3hab and Deorro’s Flashlight sounds awfully similar to KhoMha’s Cyclone released back in October 2013 on Soundpiercing Records. Before I go any further I’ll present you with both tracks so that you can formulate your own opinion.
R3hab & Deorro – Flashlight (Start at 0:36)
KhoMha – Cyclone (Start at 2:35)
Now before people jump the gun, we’re not claiming anything here. The point of this post is to bring awareness to the resemblance of both melodies. We’re not accusing anyone, we’re not claiming anyone stole anything. We’re just stating that the similarity begs the question. Knowing both R3hab and Deorro as artists, we do not believe that they purposely made a similar melody. We are reporting this so we can bring awareness to a simple similarity, instead of blatant plagiarism. So with that in mind, we will leave it up to you, our readers, to decide and let us know what your thoughts are on the matter.
