Kaleidoscope Music Festival made its inaugural appearance last year at Emerald Meadows in Eugene, Oregon. Like many new festivals, it faced a myriad of societal issues with the public surrounding the park area. Residents complained about the noise and traffic. KMF estimated around 7,000 attendees per day, and that number can take its toll on a smaller town venue.
In light of these complaints, OneEleven, the festival organizer, had the remaining two years of its contract canceled. Forced to look for a new location, they have settled upon the area of Mount Hood, in northern Oregon. OneEleven has not disclosed the exact location or venue yet, but says that information is coming soon.
Last year’s KMF joins other festivals in adopting a more self-exploratory theme, such as Lightning in a Bottle, Serenity Gathering, or Kinnection Campout. The lineup was jam-packed with huge acts such as GRiZ, Savoy, Paper Diamond, and Nas. We’re hoping this year sees just as good a turnout and lineup.

H/T: The Register-Guard
I live in Gov’t Camp, and we are upset (putting it mildly) by how they’re trying to sneak this in and give us no choice. Govy is too small to handle crowds this size, and the venue has no where near the space/services that Emerald Meadows had. YIKES is right!! I would appreciate more details on problems at last year’s KMF to take to our next town meeting. They don’t have permits yet…
Last year was awful. Paid huge ticket prices for all sorts of extras that simply did not exist, none of the volunteers had a clue as to what was going on, there was no light after dark which was not only inconvenient but dangerous, the port-a-potties were disgusting and unusable by Saturday afternoon, and the camping area we had been promised was full to capacity so we had to camp and walk from the parking lot all the way around the venue over and over again to get to the music. This was the one festival I got to go to last year and to say it was a disappointment would be both generous and kind. The saving grace was DJ Shadow who should have been an evening headliner. I understand fledgling efforts, but take responsibility for Amateur Hour, folks. The complaints of the neighbors is so secondary to everything else that went wrong. Get it right this year. Mt. Hood is too cool of a place to screw up.
these are true UN-professional promoters with no organization ! dont waist your money on this !
Hope it’s better organized. Despite the glowing accounts you choose to promote, I know many who considered it a debacle.
I wonder if they will do the same thing at their new location that they did in Eugene – run roughshod over the people living there and leave piles of garbage including abandoned cars and campers that has to be cleaned up by the county at the tax payer’s expense.
