Kody Sumner is just your average 18 year old living in Nashville, Tennessee, who happens to find satisfaction in creating electronic music; but somewhere inside this wunderkind lies a bass demon, seizing every opportunity to wreak havoc through speakers across the globe. We had a chance to sit down with him and get a little bit of insight on the early beginnings, breakthrough releases, and what we can expect to see in the future.
Better known as, Obridium, Kody is no veteran when it comes to the production of bass music. He began producing a short two years ago, and I was curious on why he started in the first place. 
“Well I started back in March of 2011 making liquid DnB out of curiosity with Cubase and Massive, and that’s what I still use today .”
It didn’t take long for a knack of filthiness to be discovered, which doesn’t surprise me too much after learning what drove him to find that inner fire.
“The whole Rottun crew, Firepower Records, Circus Records, Excision’s Shambhala mixes, stuff like that was what I was listening to so I guess that combined with my hyper personality and love for rage music is the reason for the filthiness.”
February of 2013 is when the name, Obridium began to take off but his first EP titled ‘D.R.I.N.K‘ proved to be the breakthrough release he had been looking for all along. September 9 2013 was the release date on Prime Audio, with two of the four songs charting on Beatport and one of the two hitting #3 under dubstep. From then on, the music did the work. Barron was one of the first artists to show support and before long tracks started to get played out buy names such as Sadhu, Rekoil, Getter, and Funtcase.
The future is bright for this talented, young producer and many big things are happening in 2014. Although I can’t let loose all of the details just yet, we can expect to see him on tour as well as another EP featuring some heavy hitters.
“With this upcoming EP I really just wanted to get stuff out there and experiment with new styles. It’s a lot more spaced out and technical.”
On top of an official remix for Midnight Tyrannosaurus (which you can grab for free right now) he will be making an appearance on Prime Audio’s ‘Mixture EP Vol. 2,’ and officially remixing a JPhelpz track with Subtronics. Even though this is just the beginning of what is sure to be an explosive career, Obridium has already accomplished things other producers dream of doing. He recalled on what/who has helped him to get where he is today :
“Lots of spare time and trial and error. Also, a special shout out to Subtronics, Inval3d, Imperium, Rekoil, JPhelpz, Trollphace, Symbiotic, those guys are like my family, I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Personally, I could not be more excited for what he has in store for us. In the mean time, get familiar with the name Obridium, you’re going to have to sooner or later.
