Illenium is gearing up for his upcoming performance for Wicked Halloween in an admirable way. The musician has taken to social media to spread a new campaign called #Awake aimed at suicide prevention.
The campaign is a quadruple collaborative effort between NV Concepts, Wicked Halloween, the Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Illenium himself. To participate, the campaign asks that people make a fifteen-second video where the person shares a reason why they are “awake.” Participants can then share their story to Instagram and caption their post with #Awake to spread the campaign. For every video posted, NV Concepts will donate $1 to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The campaign aims to share these stories in order to help people struggling with these thoughts and issues to at least know that they are not alone.
Illenium is the perfect person to represent such a sensitive topic. Earlier this year, Illenium released his single “Take You Down.” With the release, he shared a tear-jerking story of how the song was inspired by his own near-death experience from overdosing on heroin six years ago. He recounted how it affected his friends and family as well as his struggles with anxiety.
Illenium will also be the headliner of the Massachusetts concert Wicked Halloween who are also promoting the #Awake campaign. The show will feature performances from DROELOE and Peekaboo.
