Tampa and St. Petersburg have gradually grown their own underground dance music scene. Cities like Miami and Orlando may still dwarf Tampa and St. Pete, but the neighboring central Florida cities have come into their own the past few years. Local groups have helped the underground scene blossom, and one of those instrumental organizers goes by the name of Furious Funk. Furious Funk, also a record label, has brought a number of great events to the Tampa Bay area, and its next event looks to continue its great streak. This Saturday, enter The Wormhole with DJ Three, Denney, OMNOM and more.
First, some context. The Wormhole is an immersive production that featured during the Distant Dimension music festival in Lakeland back in January. Furious Funk organized Distant Dimension, and have since used the Wormhole production for local shows. For this latest event, The Wormhole has been upgraded to dazzle guests with its intricate production and lighting.
As proven by Distant Dimensions and its local shows, Furious Funk knows how to curate an accessible yet engaging lineup. The upcoming Wormhole event is no exception, bringing tried-and-true DJs and adding them to a new context. DJ Three, a homegrown producer and DJ who has played many shows both in Tampa and around the world, headlines the event. Tech house innovator Denney and Dirtybird rising star OMNOM provide primary support, making for a diverse lineup of house, techno and every shade in between. Other names include Dirtybird alumnus Two Tails and a b2b set between Chris Khaos and Doctor Boom.
