Main Road Into Burning Man Reopens After Shutting Down Due to Wildfire

Burning Man Burning Man

Well, this is not the right type of burn…

The main road to Burning Man was temporarily shut down due to a wildfire earlier this week, as festival attendees from near and far attempted to file in for the annual Black Rock Desert gathering in Nevada.

The massive wildfire consumed 52,704 acres of land after lightning sparked the blaze and erratic winds fed the flames, according to reports. The highway, Nevada 447, which leads into Burning Man has since been opened, but not without devastation to the surrounding area.

Although the wildfire wasn’t in threatening proximity to the grounds, Bureau of Land Management spokesman John Gaffney said there still exists a “major safety concern.”

Visit the Nevada Department of Transportation website for updates on road closures: www.nvroads.com.
