Halsey Becomes First Woman to Hit #1 on Billboard 200 in 2017

Halsey’s new album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is the first by a woman to hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 2017!

The singer-songwriter / pop star, best known in the EDM world for collaborating with The Chainsmokers on their smash song “Closer,” is making a name for herself with her second studio album. She shouted out Hype Machine on Twitter for giving her the platform she needed to be heard.

Halsey is only the fourth solo female act in the past year to reach the top of the Billboard 200, the last to earn the honor being Lady Gaga for Joanne more than 7 months ago, following Solange and Barbra Streisand. All other acts have been males or groups (Pentatonix being the only with a woman).

Lindsey Stirling — who received a Grammy award for her Dance/Electronic album —  recently spoke on the need for more female energy in EDM music, but it seems there’s a lack of women in powerhouse positions in almost every genre.

Thankfully, we have bad ass artists like Halsey to represent! Listen to her album below, find out where to get Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, and catch her on tour with PARTYNEXTDOOR and Charli XCX this year!
