Diplo Travel Tips: How He Manages 320 Flights a Year and Where Girls and Weed Fall Into His Itinerary

Diplo is at the height of his career, but he didn’t get there without literally flying high… The producer takes about 320 flights a year! Multiply that by 10 years of his career, and he estimates he’s flown about 5,000 times to make his shows, festivals and appearances across the globe for Major Lazer and his solo project.

GQ took this interesting angle when they interviewed the “globetrotter” about traveling tips and touring, and how things like weed and girls fit into his itinerary. Here are some highlights!

On hotels…

Diplo, who has the luxury of being “picky” about hotels now, boasts that Soho House in Chicago is the best on the planet. As far as amenities go, he’s always looking for a good gym and swimming pool, and when it comes to the room itself he prefers no carpeting and open spaces.

On sleeping…

He doesn’t really get jetlag anymore, but works to the point of exhaustion and does have trouble sleeping.

“If I have weed, I’ll smoke weed. That’s easy. But I’m not like Wiz Kalifa traveling with a bunch of weed on tour.”

On rookie mistakes…

The producer suggests packing light and never checking bags, for obvious reasons.

But, this is one thing you must avoid at all costs: “You don’t want to waste your time with girls. Girls on the road are a waste of time.”

On getting diarrhea during shows…

Diplo does his best to not eat anything risky on tour, because DJ-ing with #2 complications is no joke…

“It’s the worst. You just have to concentrate, get it done. I’m a soldier.”

As the producer takes on the world as a seasoned vet in the electronic music industry, he’s truly mastered this level of “Diplo-dom” (shoutout GQ for this term) — and wherever his career takes him, he’ll be traveling in style!
