Movement Detroit 2017 boasted an insane amount of talented artists, but for many attendees one stuck out above the rest…
While the true beauty of the music festival came with celebrating the roots of techno in the city that made it with headliners Richie Hawtin, Testpilot, and Carl Cox, others like The Gaslamp Killer, Juicy J and Detroit’s own Danny Brown brought hip hop flavor to Hart Plaza over Memorial Day Weekend.
But, let’s get to the guy who unexpectedly destroyed the Main Stage when he stepped behind the decks Monday afternoon. Claude VonStroke shed his usual house/techno alias for the occasion and debuted his new hip hop project, which can only be described as “alien music,” under his real name — Barclay Crenshaw.
Relentless beats and bars shook Movement as Crenshaw took control and revealed his true self. The sounds were otherworldly, the hype was unbeatable, and the crowd was eating it up!

Barclay Crenshaw Bio
In 1884 an explorer found some artifacts suggesting that an alien race has visited the earth and abducted a large group of its children and then returned them a few days later. There are no records of what happened to the children or who they were or even if they returned in the same shape as they left.
The only clues to these strange occurrences are in the cryptic art and music left behind. With every release, the cosmic manifesto at the heart of the Barclay Crenshaw project reveals itself further…
