The Chainsmokers’ debut album is out a week from this Friday, but they’re still putting out singles! Today, they put out their new song “The One” as a special surprise (read: very little warning). The song is the opening song on the album, meant to set the tone for the rest of the work… and by the sound of it, this album is going to be exceptionally pop. But we already knew that, didn’t we?

Once again featuring Drew’s voice heavily, it begins as a ballad and slightly drops into EDM at the climax, as the bass kicks in, but for the most part it’s still a pretty mellow track. As a follow up to “Something Just Like This,” we’re a little perplexed – if the goal was to demonstrate the diversity of the album, then well done. If the goal was to continue getting fans hyped, then we’re not so sure.
