Fast Company, a prestigious business magazine, has released their annual list of the 100 Most Creative People In Business 2013. EDM’s creative brainchild, Diplo, landed the #28th spot on the impressive list which further solidified Diplo’s creative influence on the EDM industry.
In the article, Fast Company was quick to point out Diplo’s success in rescuing his drowning record label, Mad Decent, with the way he managed the viral hit, Harlem Shake. When asked what was his secret, Diplo stated:
“We sold nearly 1 million copies, but spent under $5,000 on marketing. How? We gave the song away to begin; we didn’t fight pirating; and when a spark happened, we just added fuel to the fire. So many labels are going out of business. We bring it back to where it counts: releasing exciting music.”
And right he is. In a world where pirated music is dramatically hurting music sales, it is important that industry leaders adapt to the changing market and come up with innovative new ways to keep music sales afloat. Tip of the hat to Mr. Diplo and congratulations! Read the full article below:

I didn’t know he smoked cigs. haha sick
the guy’s a fuckin’ genius. he can work with Snoop on his Lion trippy reincarnation thing as well as with Major Lazer and come out with two different genres and have both of them done extremely well! he’s got like a multiple faced mind or somethin.
Hu Hu, I make Muzac I’m crative,
I can see how a business magazine would think that. I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers asked: who did that harlem shake thing? Lets get them a spot on the list.
As far as most creative in the edm genre, it’s a biased opinion. I think all edm is more creative than any other music because their are far less limits.
In my own opinion, Dillon Francis is the most creative person in EDM.
Yes he is, but i dont think theyre looking at it musically. i think theyre looking at creativity in a business standpoint. he runs his own record label, he had mad decent block party, he works with ALL genres of music, he’s always ahead of the curve, hes always discovering new artists, hes behind Major Lazer…. his creativity is def there in music AND business.
There are different definitions of Genius as you demonstrated. On one side we have Mozart and the other way we have Diplo. Mozart ( talent and popularity) vs. Diplo( popularity)
