Alesso Brings the Rave to L.A.’s Greek Theatre [Event Review]

Swedish DJ/producer Alesso “brought a rave” to Los Angeles’s famed Greek Theatre this past Saturday night. Unveiling a massive new stage design in the process, Alesso delivered an energetic and uplifting performance to the sold out crowd. Alesso powered through a bevy of his pop-crossover hits mixing in all sorts of progressive and big house bangers that kept the crowd jumping. Combined with the 3D appearance of the stage and an impressive light show, it was a spectacular performance from one of the biggest names in dance music today.

Fellow Swede Salvatore Ganacci got the still arriving crowd warmed up with an array of hard-hitting electro and trap, all the while keeping the crowd entertained with his upbeat attitude and frenetic dance moves and hip thrusts. All the while, the massive video board projecting images of an animated Salvatore and the Native American character Bobby Sixkiller, from the 90s television series “Renegade.” If you haven’t seen Salvatore Ganacci before, you’re missing out.

After a quick changeover, the lights of the Greek dimmed even more, and it was time for Alesso to take the stage. Alesso got the crowd even more warmed up with some pounding electro including “Tear the Roof Up.” He acknowledged the crowd before dropping “Years” getting on the mic and simply remarking, “I think you guys know this one.” One of my favorite moments was his mashup of his smash hit “Heroes” with Axwell ^ Ingrosso’s high-energy banger, “Dream Bigger.” I feel like the most nuts the crowd went was when Alesso dropped his collab with Calvin Harris, “Under Control.” But, the overall highlight of the night had to be when Roy English came out to do live vocals for “Cool.”

It was an incredible night for those lucky enough to score a ticket and attend. Fans also received a special commemorative poster on their way out. Alesso will be playing some Vegas dates in the coming months as well as going overseas. He’ll be in Vancouver for Doom’s Night, Halloween weekend as well.
