That time of year is upon us once again, the nominations for the annual MTV EMAs have been released – time to look at how electronic music is viewed in the main stream.
At the top of the list, The Weeknd & Daft Punk’s “Starboy” has been nominated for Best Video – The Weeknd tweeted hours ago that the music video will come out tomorrow.
Calvin Harris is nominated for Best Male artist. 
The Chainsmokers are nominated for Best New artist, despite having broken through three years ago with “#Selfie.”
The nominations for Best Electronic act are: Afrojack, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Major Lazer, and Martin Garrix.
Finally, Martin Garrix and Tomorrowland are both nominated for “Best World Stage.” Tomorrowland is the only festival up for an award.
The 2016 MTV EMAs will broadcast live from the Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Sunday, Nov. 6.
