LA is a land of current EDM innovation. Making monumental moves in the scene are the likes of Jauz, Getter, NGHTMRE, and Slander, just to name a few of the biggest bass music stars right now. So when I’m stumbling through Soundcloud around midnight (as we all do right..?) and find LA-based duo ARMNHMR (pronounced “Arm and Hammer”) with their debut EP coming out at the end of this month, I’m ecstatic. I’m sure their current singles shall serve my midnight Soundcloud cravings.
The track opens up with atmospheric piano notes that make me feel like I am in the middle of Spirited Away. “Origin” slowly builds up with Porter Robinson-esque reminiscent goosebumps accompanied by warlike alarms right before the drop. All of a sudden you’re falling through a black hole of a mind-melting drop, wishing it was a dream, only to find your way back to the sound of melodic piano notes.
Inspired by the experimental electronic sounds (and obviously the naming mechanisms) of MSTRKRFT and SBTRKT, ARMNHMR combines the energy of heavy hitting dubstep and trance with an emotional melodic side. This is ARMNHMR’s second single, “Origin,” off their debut EP Infinite. Keep your eyes peeled towards the end of May for the official release of all 5 tracks.
