128 Arrests Made During Weekend One Of Coachella

Thanks to KMIR, statistics on arrests during the first weekend of Coachella are now available to the public.

According to the report, a total of 128 arrests were made over the weekend, of which nearly 93% were drug or alcohol related. This is over a 27% increase from last year.

“Police made 57 arrests for possession of a controlled substance, and of those, eight were felony arrests; 46 people were arrested for alcohol-related violations; and 16 were arrested for public intoxication.”

Of the nine remaining arrests, there were “five arrests for resisting and/or obstructing a peace officer; two arrests for outstanding warrants; and one arrest each for trespassing and a vehicle code violation.”

There was a slight increase in the amount of arrests this year compared to last year, likely stemming from simply an increase in staff on the premises. There was also a greater emphasis on arresting minors with fake IDs looking to buy alcohol. That number rose from 20 in 2015 to 46 this year.
