We’re not sure what Kanye West was expecting when he only put his new album up for stream on a platform that hardly anyone uses. The Life Of Pablo has apparently been downloaded (illegally) over 500,000 times on torrenting sites since its “release,” a term we use loosely. Over 10,000 people are currently sharing the album on sites like The Pirate Bay, and this reportedly has Kanye incensed.
Various publications report that Kanye is speaking with a legal team and plans to pursue legal action against torrenting services for allowing his album to be proliferated. These claims are largely unfounded at this point, but even the rumors haven’t seemed to phase Pirate Bay officials and staff members.
According to Torrent Freak, staff member Spud17 said, “Kanye West is a blithering twat who has an incredible sense of self-importance. Even diehard fans are saying his new album sucks balls, but as for Mr. West suing TPB, good luck Kanye!”
Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde also remarked at Tidal in some not so kind words, saying, “The album was only released on Tidal, so I’m impressed it got leaked anyhow since fewer people pass by there than at Fort Knox. He should be happy someone cares enough to listen to it, so that they signed up for an account to stream the low quality music you get at Tidal.”
“Low quality” in this case referring to how good the music is, not the FLAC files that TIDAL purports to stream for its top-tier service.
In the past week, Kanye has easily become our favorite person to look at in the media world. His consistent and repetitive gaffes leave most of us scratching our heads, but most of us are just happy to let him do as he pleases.
