Since its inception in 2010, Black Butter Records has been a driving force for the careers of some of dance music’s biggest stars. Initially, the UK-based imprint began as an outlet for its founders, Olly Wood, Henry Village, and Joe Gassa and their company, Stackhouse Management, to release their client’s music, and to stand up against labels with “genre-specific” requirements. In its early years, Black Butter Records released up-and-coming, UK artists like Jessie Ware and Gorgon City, but it wasn’t until Rudimental’s single, “Feel the Love,” featuring John Newman, that the record label blew up. With artists like Gorgon City, Rudimental, Kidnap Kid, Clean Bandit, and My Nu Leng signed to Black Butter Records, there’s no denying that the UK label has gone from a promotional channel to one of dance music’s finest imprints.
To help kick off festival season, Black Butter Records and MATTE took over the Bowery Bank Building in New York City on April 3rd, bringing their brand of madness to the states from across the pond. With sets by Black Butters’ own Kidnap Kid, My Nu Leng, and Wayward, a special guest appearance from The Gaslamp Killer, performances by LA icons, Jessie Andrews and KITTENS, amongst others, this party was one for the ages, as you can see from the recap video you can watch below.
