Artists Modify Profiles In Support of Jay Z’s TIDAL Streaming Service

So So Def All-Star 20th Anniversary Concert - After Party

The weekend isn’t even over yet and attendees are still filing out of Ultra Music Festival and we’ve already got our next “big” story.

Artists all across Facebook are modifying their profile pictures and cover photos to a simple solid teal to show support for Jay Z’s new streaming service, TIDAL. The service has technically been available in the UK and U.S. since September last year, but has obviously received very little media coverage as users still continue to trickle in slowly. TIDAL boasts that it is “the first high fidelity, lossless [FLAC] music streaming service with 25 million tracks, 75,000 music videos, and expert editorial from experienced music journalists.”

I can see why it may be off to a rough start – most consumers of FLAC audio torrent it, and would rather not pay for such a service (though, the ability to access higher quality more readily might attract some users). High def music videos are available on YouTube in various resolutions up to (now) 4K, with 1440p and 1080p still viable options for most consumers. Finally, editorial content is available on a plethora of other more established platforms, including Mic, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Complex and even Your EDM.

TIDAL offers a Premium and HiFi subscription for $9.99 and $19.99, respectively. The “Premium” level is likely just a buzzword as there is no free subscription; “Basic” would be more appropriate.

The social media push is likely a response to TIDAL’s recent and rapid expansion “in a total of 31 countries and preparing launch in an additional six.”

Available across iOS and Android devices, as well as in web browser and desktop players, TIDAL offers high fidelity, lossless sound quality to enjoy music the way it was intended by your favorite artists.  Streaming at more than four times the bit rate of competitive services, users are able to enjoy TIDAL on a wide range of the world’s finest home and portable audio products. Partnership and integration agreements have already been made with over 30 of the world’s most respected audio brands […] .

Artists that have changed their profiles include Daft Punk, deadmau5Calvin Harris and Usher

“As an advertisement-free, lossless, CD-quality music and video streaming service with extensive curated editorial expertise, TIDAL is available for a monthly subscription. To experience high fidelity streaming, visit the TIDAL website at www.tidal.com .”
