Sorry trolls, Taylor Swift beat you to the punch.
Starting June 1st, everyone will be free to purchase domains ending in custom suffixes. With .sucks, .adult, .porn and hundreds of other options becoming available, Taylor Swift isn’t taking any chances as it has been reported that Taylor Swift has already purchased the rights to taylorswift.porn & taylorswift.adult.
Although Taylor has bought up the first two domains, it would appear another company operates the rights of .sucks, which will be available for purchase for up to $2,500 according to Marketland. With the introduction of new urls, it’s important that artists actively purchase domain names to ensure their brand is not defamed or manipulated by third parties.
This move to purchase domains follows Taylor’s recent actions to trademark her lyrics on her latest album, which apparently has already denied paparazzi a $100,000 payout they would have received if they had beaten her to the trademark.
This all goes to show the importance of protecting your assets as an artist because the bigger you get, the more people will come after you.
“Microsoft has already registered Office.porn and Office.adult. The same goes for TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult. It’s first to the buzzer.” -Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry
