Frankie Knuckles lives on. Rightfully dubbed “The Godfather of House Music” during this weekend’s GRAMMY awards, the film will focus on Knuckles and the illustrious Chicago nightclub The Warehouse in the 80s. Producer Bob Teitel, whose resume includes the film Barbershop, plans to tell the story of Chicago’s boom of house music using Warehouse’s owner Robert Williams and Frankie Knuckles’ perspective. Other contributers to the film include Chicago club owner Joe Shanahan, nightlife personality Billy Dec, and entertainment attorney Randy Crumpton. Like documentaries such as Limelight, the film will hopefully educate fans from around the world about the early stages of the community we live in now.
The untitled project’s launch party will take place on the anniversary of Frankie Knuckles Death (March 31), with a portion of the proceeds going to the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which supports HIV information, testing, and treatment.
