It seems as though the musical trend these days is “less is more.” Instead of big bulky synths layered on top of each other, the best songs of late sound lighter, free from the burden of being a fat electro banger. APEK is doing just that, a result of the technical skills he picked up at the Icon Collective Production School. He first came on to the scene two years ago, as Hardwell chose his track “Hurricane” as the winner of a Talenthouse competition just before Miami Music Week 2013. Since then, the California native has been building upon the exposure, opening for artists such as Boys Noize, The Chainsmokers, and more. He’s also been steadily releasing music, such as a remix of Bastille’s “Bad Blood” and this week’s track “Human.” This is a great progressive house tune in the sense that it doesn’t sound like most other tracks of the genre. Though, it’s hard to pin down the exact reason why. Maybe it’s the dark opening, that feels like it belongs in a movie about a future dystopian society. Or it could be Zashanell’s flawless vocals, free of auto tune and blemishes. Whatever the case may be, that lead synth will definitely make you replay the track a few times, making this track a must buy.
