In December, Sammy Bananas — producer on A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold label — launched his 7th annual campaign to address the environmental impact from air travel. Struck by the amount of carbon emission from a touring DJ’s frequent flying across the globe, Bananas created his fundraiser called DJs for Climate Action (DJ4CA, formerly known as DJs Against Climate Change). The 2014 drive raised over $4,000 in 21 days, and donations went towards the Swiss non-profit called myclimate, which supports climate-conscious projects such as the construction of energy-efficient stoves in Kenya.
Over the past 7 years, DJ4CA has raised tens and thousands of dollars for environmentally conscious initiatives, and proceeds have benefited different charities such as Typhoon Haiyan Relief & Recovery last year. DJ4CA participants include Fool’s Gold label owner A-Trak himself, Soul Clap, Nick Thayer, Grandtheft and more. It’s warming to see artists giving back to the community for such a great cause.
