In the wake of the recent Sony Corporation hack, a plethora of confidental documents and emails have been released, revealing secret plans to the public. One of these plans, as reported by TechCrunch, involves the CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, and the CEO of Sony Entertainment, Michael Lynton. What could they possibly be up to?
It seems Spiegel is looking to expand Snapchat and capitalize on its 100 million active users by bringing music promotion to the table, as discussed in the email screenshot above. The CEO’s visions include starting a record label for artists to promote through the app, presumably in a similar fashion to their current music promotion method found below. If this deal goes through, you could soon be seeing tunes alongside your… “pictures” within the app.
Another bit of intriguing info from the leaks pertains to a partnership between Snapchat and Vevo, presumably to allow advertising and music videos within the app – however, the deal didn’t go through due to Snapchat wanting no less than 40% of revenue, which Vevo was unwilling to agree on (as seen below).
What do you think? How would you feel about Snapchat turning into a music promotion app?
