Richie Hawtin doesn’t seem particularly fond of people recording him during his performances. During his schedule set at this year’s Time Warp, he intentionally or unintentionally (it’s still unclear) knocked over one of his monitor speakers in the direction of a nearby girl who was recording the show with her phone. Thankfully, it appears that neither she nor her phone were injured or damaged in the accident. We hope this was a mistake on Richie’s behalf as pushing a whole monitor onto someone for simply recording his performance seems to be an overly aggressive way of dealing with a small inconvenience.

But we need more DJs like this! The bland as fuck, politician-esque, no personality kind of DJ has become so common these days (watch an interview of Hardwell, Avicii, Dimitri Vegas etc, you’ll see what I mean), we need a return of the Frankie Wilde/Eyeball Paul/late 90s ‘superstar DJ’ (for example Fatboy Slim) not giving a fuck kind. Fair play to Hawtin for bringing some controversy and personality into the ever increasingly bland realm of media coached DJs. DJs need to represent themselves as artists, not as Ed Milliband (dull-as-fuck leader of the opposition political party in the UK for the American readers).

Dude, I feel like he shoulda done what Datsik did when he crowd surfed and someone stole his hat. He just turned off all the music and was like “C’mon guys, gimme back my hat,” and when someone threw it back up, he just started right back on in.
