Defining themselves as a “Hydro-Funk experience”, Kevin Donohue, bassist Andrew Clymer, and drummer Chris Anderson, have made many advances in trying to establish their own niche in the market, and pursuing their own personal dreams, as any musician should. Don’t take them lightly either- they have played all over the United States, not just in Colorado – at Red Rocks, but even hitting Wakarusa and others!
Aside from artists like Pretty Lights, gearing for a funk-based guitar-filled sound, yet with the same idea of production we’re so used to, not many have been able to break into the glitchy, live-music based world. We’ve heard this type of hybrid music before, many have tried, and many have failed. Colorado-based SunSquabi, however, seems to be figuring out their place, at their own rate. Though not for everyone, if you have an open mind to “electronic music”, you may really enjoy these artists.
While their latest release is more on the live-music side, it is clear to see that it has electronic undertones. Their new single Thunder (below) certainly is a journey for anyone into lead-based electronic music with funk undertones. They have also Remixed Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight and Conga by Gloria Estefan.

As EDM moves more toward big-money popularized genres like Big-Room house, the other artists have to find ways to stay afloat, and for these 3, I think they’ve found it. If you are picking up what they’re throwing down, be sure to see them at the Fox Theater with DYNOHUNTER on 11/21/2014.
