Dombresky and Noizu brought their special b2b set to the legendary Hollywood Palladium this past weekend. Fresh off a test run at Day Trip, the two house music venerables came together for an immaculate two hour set of house, disco and rave. We got to have a brief chat with Dombresky and Noizu prior to their headlining set. We discussed the origins of Rave Alarm, musical styles, and where the project might head in the future. Check out below for an unfiltered backstage conversation with Dombresky and Noizu.
Hey guys, thanks for chatting with us. Tell us about how your b2b has become so big? How did you guys originally link up, and how does it feel now that we’re here at a headline show?
D: “I heard his song, I was like he’s good, let’s get together. So we made this song, Rave Alarm. Then we became friends and we played some shows together. And then one day we were like we should organize a b2b, something like that. So we were thinking about it during the pandemic, and then we just made it happen.”
N: “Yeah, it was like, really quick and really easy.” 
D: “For us it was really easy because we’re friends and I know what kind of music he does. And he knows my music, and it’s a good balance. It seems like we have two different styles. And then, what happened? I don’t know, we just had the idea, and we put a date and we were like let’s sort it out and we did it. We did Day Trip together and we had a lot of good feedback. Day Trip was the first one like, oh, that wasn’t bad.”
What makes the Dombresky b2b Noizu connection so sick? What’s the secret sauce and how will that come out over the course of your set tonight? Or any set of yours for that matter?
D: “We try to play different styles when we’re together, so we try to bring back this type of electronic music from the 90s and 2000s.”
N: “Like rave”
D: “Like rave, like very, not techno.”
N: “Yeah, it’s kind of like rave, nostalgic, 90s dance music.”
D: “So it’s going to be half rave.”
N: “And half our music.”
D: “We worked a lot on the set and we’re excited to share this too.”
N: “And mashups as well, of our own songs.”
You guys just put out a 2-song EP. I, myself personally, really dug “Revival.” When you’re in the studio, how do you guys work together? And what were you guys trying to accomplish with these two tracks? How is it different from if you were producing a solo track?
D: “So, yeah, we made this track and tried the first one with ‘Jack Machine.’”
N: “We tried that at Day Trip.”
D: “We tried it at Day Trip, I was like, oh shit, that works well, let’s release that song. And, then we are friends with the artist. He sent us some demos, we sent it back, and back and forth like that and it happens. We don’t want to be like tech-house or house.”
N: “Somewhere in between. With ‘Jack Machine’ it was weird though, because we had it, and we played it at Day Trip. It wasn’t until we saw the video, it was like that shit sounds really good.”
D: “But, yeah, we tried demos when we had some live sets. Sometimes the demo hits.”
N: “Sometimes it sucks!”
D: “But, if you never fail, you never try, you never win.”
What’s the future of Dombresky b2b Noizu? Can we expect any new music or shows coming up any time soon?
D: “Not any events, we just follow the vibe. It’s not like we don’t have plans, but, we prefer to wait. We know we have something good in our hands and we don’t have any pressure because he has his profile on his side, I have mine. And, if we have good opportunities to play in very, very good events, we’re going to do it again. But, it’s not a priority right now. Just like we’re doing tonight.”
N: “Special shows, like this one.”
D: “Yeah, we want to keep things very special. If you want to see Dombresky b2b Noizu, maybe it’s going to be one year, maybe it’s going to be six months on the other side of the planet. We have to take a little bit to play.”
What made you guys pick Los Angeles as the venue for the show?
N: “I feel like it’s probably our strongest fan base, probably for both of us.”
D: “Also, right now, you’re not going to ride the music? The explosion, the creativity, I think so, here in L.A. So it’s good for us to start here and see what we’ve got.”
Since neither of you are originally from Los Angeles, what do you guys like best about coming here?
D: “Oh no, how’d you guess?”
N: “I just think they’re one of the most enthusiastic crowds. Compared to other places, they’re very hard core fans. It’s just good vibes.”
D: “I know a lot of people who live here, a lot of my team lives here from the start of things, and I love the sun. It’s a really good place.”
