Summer is right around the corner, if not already here, at least in a spiritual sense; and we have the perfect vibey track to kick off the season. It also just so happens to be a mega-collab that brings together a myriad of artists. Here we go…Dragonette, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Cat Dealers and Bruno Martini have all joined forces for “Summer Thing.”
“Summer Thing” is a hopeful and optimistic bop that blends smooth, radio-friendly production with some light progressive house vibes, all highlighted by Dragonette’s yearning and playful vocals. Much like the rest of us who have been cooped up for the better part of a year, she’s ready to get out there and get it. “Everybody’s somebody who wants somebody else,” goes the vocal refrain, and I couldn’t agree more.
Despite being made during lockdown, all the parties involved knew that they wanted to make something uplifting. As Cat Dealers explained, everyone received a copy of the demo in secret from their mutual manager. Everyone wanted to do something with it, so everyone did. “We – Cat Dealers, Bruno Martini and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano – are represented by the same manager, so he decided to send the demo separately to all of us knowing that we’d all love the track. Turns out we did love it, but no one was aware at that point that we all wanted to work on it too! When we found out, we decided to collaborate and work together on the track, so his plan actually worked out pretty well.” 
SJRM reiterated how the track came about, the style they were going for, and how everyone was able to stand out on it too. “One of the producers involved, Paul Harris, sent us an amazing vocal from Martina from Dragonette and we jumped on it. Our management also showed Cat Dealers and Bruno Martini, and everyone loved it. I guess it has that real summer flavor, a sense of optimism we were looking for. Let’s not forget that we started working on this banger in the middle of the pandemic, so we really thought about a song that would resonate and bring positive vibes to people. In the end, we all worked on a final song that would fit the sound of each of the artists involved, which is quite unusual because we do all have our own specific styles.”
