After over a year of lockdown, Ibiza will welcome back tourists this Summer.
Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto, is confident Ibiza will be able to “reopen safely” in June. That goes for the entire country of Spain, including the Balearic Islands.
“Our job is position Spain as a safe destination,” Reyes recently stated during a press conference — and “to guarantee safe mobility as of June” is the goal.
This is all possible due to the implementation of COVID-19 passports aka Digital Green Certificates, which will allow QR codes to reveal an individual’s immunity status — i.e. “vaccinated, recently tested negative, recently recovered” or any combination of these.
Ibiza and its nightlife is more than a destination, it’s a necessity. According to DJ Mag, Spain brings in 80 millions tourists a year, “with the industry providing over 12% of the country’s GDP.”
