Kygo shares his first new release of 2021 with “Gone Are The Days” featuring James Gillespie.
The deep cut production lingers in a reflective space about missing the signs of a love that’s right in front of you. There’s no happy ending here — but the subject finds strength to move forward as Gillespie sings out, “You don’t know how but you carry on.”
Kygo builds a theatrical world around Gillespie’s vulnerable vocal performance, through a lush soundscape of lingering piano chords, heavy impacts, pads and strings. Ultimately, “Gone Are The Days” finds its own perfect balance based in storytelling and emotion.
The producer kept busy through 2020, first with his Avicii Tribute song, “Forever Yours” featuring Sandro Cavazza, followed up by a number of collaborative Golden Hour tracks and the album’s full release. He also revitalized dance floor classics, Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff.”
Kygo says he’s “excited for a new chapter of music.” Per the request of his fan base, the producer will also be releasing more piano songs moving forward, starting with “Gone Are The Days” (Piano Version).

Kygo – Gone Are The Days ft. James Gillespie
Lyrics
You were my closest friend
My strength in days gone mad
But I spent my time in shallow sheets
I should have seen your hand
I didn’t see the signs
Was blinded by the lights
And lost where I belong
I thought that we’d grow old
Give kids our bad advice
Now I’m alone
You went and left me with these sleepless nights
You took my warmth and soul
Left me with doubt and cold
Is this where I belong?
Gone are the days of young, better run for cover
There’s no one here to save you from yourself and you’ll discover it’s hard
You don’t know how to carry on
Gone are the days of young, better run for cover
When everything you love is lying six feet under, I know
You don’t know how but you carry on
These days are longer now
My nights spent wondering why
And I get mad inside
Did you fight back or even try?
You didn’t see the signs
Were blinded by the lights
You lost where you came from
We’re not so different, no
We grew up wanting more
But I found it easy
‘Cause I left my morals at the door
You took an honest heart
And watched it fall apart
You lost before you started
Gone are the days of young, better run for cover
There’s no one here to save you from yourself and you’ll discover it’s hard
You don’t know how to carry on
Gone are the days of young, better run for cover
When everything you love is lying six feet under, I know
You don’t know how but you carry on
Gone are the days of young, better run for cover
There’s no one here to save you from yourself and you’ll discover it’s hard
You don’t know how but you carry on
