DistroKid and Snapchat have teamed up to give users the power to distribute music across the popular social media platform. With 265 million daily active users, this is huge news for independent artists everywhere.
Snapchat’s Sounds feature launched in back in October, a vital step to promote emerging talent and music discovery. The platform previously made deals with major, as well as independent, record labels and publishers including Warner Music Group, Universal Music Publishing Group, and more.
Now, distribution is in the hands of DistroKid users. This probably goes without saying, but artists must verify they have all associated music publishing rights before they’re able to distribute music to Snapchat.
DistroKid founder Philip Kaplan shares: “With DistroKid, independent artists everywhere now have an easy way to get their music into Snapchat. We’re excited to partner with Snapchat, and introduce millions of new tracks to millions of Snapchat users.”
This move will undoubtedly boost streams and Shazams, as Snapchat moves to break artists in the way TikTok has mastered.
