Brazilian superstar Vintage Culture is back and he is starting 2021 off with a bang. As his international profile continued to rise in 2020, he’s been rewarded with a new deal with CAA, and he dropped his first Essential Mix on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Show earlier this month. Now he’s dropped his first single of the year “Cali Dreams.”
Teaming up with fellow Brazilians, Fancy Inc., and getting a feature vocal from UK singer, The Beach. Vintage Culture and The Beach previously teamed up on “In the Dark” in 2019, which hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts, a pretty solid track record. Vintage Culture has teased this track in many of his recent livestreams. The song is about the dream and possibility of moving out west, something that a lot of people from all over the globe aspire to do.
While not a sample or a direct cover, the song draws heavy inspiration from the 1965 folk-rock classic “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas. At least it does in the vocal bridge during the buildup. After that it is a fantastic club track with impeccable production, a smooth bassline, and some ethereal synths.
Check out the latest from Vintage Culture and Fancy Inc., “Cali Dreams” featuring The Beach, out now on Spinnin’. The official video lampoons the idea of the Cali Dream. It follows an extra on a movie set as he discovers that a Hollywood shoot isn’t the Cali Dream he had in mind.
