Armin van Buuren has been keeping busy in 2020. Despite the global pandemic, the Dutch legend has remained a fixture this year. He’s released three albums of remixes and he’s also had a string of collaborations this year with the likes of Nicky Romero, Blasterjaxx and Brennan Heart. Now Armin is back with a radio-friendly collab with Eurovision 2019 winner Duncan Laurence, “Feel Something.”
Armin is no stranger to pop-leaning collabs; there are several on last year’s Balance. “Feel Something” is an uplifting shot of good vibes at a time when the whole world could sure use it. No doubt, Duncan Laurence’s soaring vocals carry the track. The production has a decidedly synth-pop feel to it, I feel like there’s some serious The 1975 vibes here. The lyrics tell a story of getting over heartbreak and looking on the bright side; there’s no arguing with the hook, “I’d rather feel something than be numb.” Here’s what each of the artists had to say about “Feel Something.”
“Whenever I’m writing a song, I try to draw from the most recognizable life-altering events around me and find the little things that suddenly feel so different because of it. The vacant chair on the other side of the kitchen table, the empty half of a double bed, that kind of stuff. Even though it hurts, it’s also a memory of something beautiful. And that’s what ‘Feel Something’ is about…I’m very happy that the message of this song gets to see the light of day, and I am super proud that Igot to do this with someone like Armin.” -DL
“I always feel blessed working with very talented singer-songwriters. Not only because they love music just as much as I do, but also because it reminds me that I am so lucky to be able to create music with other people and do this for a living. If you’ve ever heard Duncan Laurence perform live: that voice…what a gift! Working together with him was an absolute blessing and I am very proud of the result. It’s fresh and new, and we put a lot of love in it. We intended to let listeners ‘Feel Something’, and that’s exactly what this record does.” -AVB
