We’ve been chronicling R3HAB’s steady stream of releases this year, and with a few exceptions, they’ve mostly ventured into more radio-friendly territory featuring female vocalists. Now we get an unexpected remix from R3HAB as he takes on Steven Malcolm and Shaggy’s single “Fuego.”
Most readers probably best recognize Shaggy from his 2000 smash hit, “It Wasn’t Me”, but he remains active and is one of the top reggae artists in the world. In fact, he won the 2019 Grammy for best reggae album with Sting! Not only is seeing Shaggy’s name a blast of nostalgia for any music fan, R3HAB’s fans will be especially pleased with this banging remix.
The track opens with some hard bass synths in the background, definitely R3HAB’s festival sound right here. Steven Malcolm’s vocals feature prominently as he brings energy to the verse. After the first sung verse, there’s a rap interlude where R3HAB introduces some trap drums. Finally we get Shaggy’s verse, and he sounds just like he did back in the day on TRL. Here’s what R3HAB had to say about the remix.
“We smashed hip-hop, reggae, and dance into this remix, and it sounds hot like its name. Steven has so much talent, and Shaggy is a legend, so it was an honor to remix their record.”
