MAKJ is truly one of the unsung heroes of dance music. The California-born DJ has helped produce some of the biggest hits in EDM and he’s got a long list of collaborators including Steve Aoki, Deorro, Hardwell, Showtek and Lil Jon. Now, MAKJ embarks upon a new chapter as he’s just announced an exclusive record deal with Armada. His debut single for the Dutch label, “Green Light” is out now!
It had been a quiet year for Mackenzie Johnson so far. After dropping a ton of releases in 2019, all MAKJ fans had been treated to in 2020 were a couple of remixes. However, any time an artist signs an exclusive deal with a label, it’s big news! And “Green Light” has all the energy to get your house party going and celebrate.
The song gets right to it as we hear the vocal refrain “Give me the Green Light.” Some synth plucks give way to the sultry vocals, during the second verse we get some hi-hats in the background as the synth rhythm builds up and down in the background. The buildup to the drop really hits hard as the vocals increase in urgency and yearning. The drop has a huge pulsating bassline, grooving percussion, and that same urging vocal refrain, “Give me the Green Light.”

“Since I started my musical journey almost ten years ago, I’ve never signed to a label. But I can tell you that Armada will be the best home for all the new MAKJ music that’s still to come. I’m glad to be a part of the family and I’m looking forward to coming into 2021 with the best music I’ve ever made!”
