Valentino Khan Takes a Crack at Trippy Midtempo with ‘Deathproof’

It’s been two weeks since Valentino Khan promised new music and he has delivered. His previous single “Blackmail” was another hot-house banger the producer and DJ has developed his signature sound around. But Khan’s latest single takes us to places Khan has yet to share before.

“Deathproof” is Valentino Khan infusing his sonic tinge to the midtempo genre. Inspired by the electronic sound defined by Ed Banger artists in the late 2000s to the early 2010s, Khan flexes his production mastery in mind-boggling fashion. For example, the song kicks off with this malevolent bass line that instills a knack for chaos. It quickly makes its point with a drop that paints a glorious homage to French electro while maintaining the hype and adrenaline Khan typically injects into his creations. The second drop switches the bpm at breakneck speed sending listeners into a frenzy with an even harder bass line. The simultaneous energetic savagery and technical precision is jaw-dropping to say the least.

Valentino Khan has dabbled in bass music in the past, but never has it been on full display as a solo release like this from him. If this is the kind of sonic direction Khan wants to take with his brand and sound, then his upcoming French Fried EP can’t come soon enough. Until then, we can look forward every two weeks for new solo releases from Khan until the full EP drops.

Make sure to give a listen to “Deathproof” by Valentino Khan.
