4B carved out a filling slice of the bass scene and continues to do so with each new release. He defined 2019 with aggressive singles such as “Bang Bang,” “Atomic Bomb,” and “Told You.” But 2020 releases for 4B are hitting different. Take his latest track “Going Nowhere” featuring Trippie Redd out on Ultra Records.
“Going Nowhere” debuted at Nocturnal Wonderland back in 2018. Since then, the track has garnered plenty of hype around several 4B sets and its eventual release. 4B shared his thoughts on the making and premiering of the new song saying,
“I wanted to bring someone out for my set at Nocturnal Wonderland. At that time I finished the first version of the demo with Trippie. He didn’t even hear it yet at that time. Last minute we were able to bring him out and to perform ‘Fuck Love’ & then right after I dropped ‘Going Nowhere.’ The first time he heard it was on stage. The rest is history.” 
The song “Going Nowhere” is a fantastic fusion of future bass, trap, and emo rap. Trippie Redd takes vocal charge of the song with his hazy singing and melancholic lyrics. Meanwhile, 4B’s instrumental creeps into the foreground until it swells up with Redd repeating the song’s title. The drop chops up Trippie Redd’s singing into a melody over a slow, tropical beat. On the second drop, 4B takes things up a notch with a jersey club beat-switch before bringing back the smooth drop.
Singles like this prove that 4B is no longer an artist constrained to pumping out instrumental headbangers. His previous single “Lucid” with Austin Mahone and Abraham Mateo shows lead this new trend with it’s future bass aesthetic and moody vocal features. These two songs and others like it in the future from 4B can open a new section of fans that favor melodic feels that many other bass acts have tapped into in recent years. This is especially true when Trippie Redd is involved who has worked with other staple EDM acts such asDiplo, Baauer, and Alison Wonderland.
All in all, “Going Nowhere” is a net positive for both 4B and Trippie Redd. It’s a sad boi anthem for the festival crowd the day that festivals are up and running again.
