Kompany & Effin Drop Absolute Weapon, “Chunky”

I’m often of two closely related but very different ideologies when it comes to heavy bass music. On the one hand, I believe good music should have some sort of message or reason behind its creation. On the other hand, for dance music especially, sometimes you just need some loud fuckin’ sounds to get you in the mood to go out at night. Neither are superior over the other, they just serve different purposes.

“Chunky,” the new collab from Kompany and Effin, is of the latter category. For the life of my, I couldn’t paint you a picture of what events could have transpired in the producers’ lives to lead to the creation of this absolute weapon. But, imagining hearing it on a packed dance floor, I don’t believe I’d care about that at all.

The name of the song obviously comes from the vocal sample, but it’s also a perfect descriptor of the track itself. Everything about it — the synths, the drums, the melody, the mixing — is chunky. I can’t elaborate any more on that than a pig trying to explain the color fuchsia, but just listen and you’ll understand what I mean.
