Story & LIV Nightclubs In Miami Pause Operations In Light Of Coronavirus

story miami story miami

Earlier this week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency and last night, President Trump announced travel restrictions from Europe to the US (UK not included). With those announcements in mind, both Story and LIV Nightclubs in Miami have announced a pause of operations.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in light of yesterday’s announcements, following the guidelines of local, national and international authorities, LIV/Story Nightclub will be temporarily pausing operations,” the statement reads.

Albert Maloof Berdellans III, Ultra’s former head of marketing and the man who wanted to find a replacement for all the DJs still headed to Miami in light of the festival’s cancellation, tweeted yesterday in response to Trump’s travel ban, “guys I don’t think you get it. MMW is over— 80% of the DJs performing are European.”

Now, with the temporary closure of both Story and LIV, Miami Music Week is pretty much over. With less than a week until original festivities were meant to go on, promoters are forced to consider whether they ignore health and safety recommendations for the sake of the fans, or keep the show going for the sake of the fans. Either way, they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Miami Beach, which was previously given grief for allowing spring break events to proceed even in the face of Ultra’s closure, is now also expected to cancel all events and suspend permits for large gatherings.
