It feels so weird to say that an artist is putting out their “debut” album, when they’ve actually been producing music for a decade. This happens quite a bit in dance music, where singles carry significant weight and artists can put out dozens of tracks before releasing a proper album. As such, albums reserved for some of the best of the best. The latest to join that tier of artist is Dutch producer/DJ Quintino.
While Quintino first rose to prominence on the big room wave around 2011-2014, he’s definitely outlasted that, and evolved into one of the more versatile producers in the game. His debut album Bright Nights is showcase of where he’s gone and where he’s come as a producer. Quintino packs 15 tracks onto Bright Nights, showcasing his breadth as a producer. The first half of the album is tracks that have already been released as singles. His big room collab with Hardwell “Reckless”, his collab with Alok “Party Never Ends”, another big room collab with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike “Boing” all fit easily into any Quintino set. The Dutch producer (Quinten van den Berg) also tries his hand at tech house, pop and progressive house.
The second part of the album is all unreleased Quintino originals. Again, this is Quintino dabbling in various genres and showing us what he’s capable of as a producer. Some standouts to me were “Bro Hymn” a reimagining of the punk rock classic by Pennywise, if you’re from Southern California, you’ve certainly heard that melody on rock radio. “Sueltalo” featuring Melissa Sandoval is Quintino masterfully producing his brand of music with a Latin flair. This is probably the most radio friendly track on the album. Lastly, “Make Moves” with Cesqeaux featuring Lil Debbe & Bok Nero, this is a certifiable trap banger and a fitting bow on the package that is Bright Nights. “My aim with this album is to leave something special in the music industry. A milestone in my career, but also a musical statement that underlines the various sounds I produced throughout the years. But above all, I hope to create lots of special moments for my audience with this release, a smile on people’s faces and a spark of dancefloor bliss for everyone that listens to the music.”
