The very first time I wrote about Hotcaller, just barely over a year ago today, was for his wild remix of Slayer’s “Raining Blood.” It’s nice to see that his penchant for classic metal hasn’t been tainted, as he now enlists the help of Lucille Croft for a new remix of the Nine Inch Nails classic, “Closer.”
Lucille and Hotcaller clearly work well together as this remix pulses with life and energy the whole way through. Trent Reznor’s inimitable voice pairs fantastically with the new-age midtempo vibe and this duo zero in on exactly what needs to be done to keep this classic “in the family,” so to speak.
By the time the drop hits, you feel just familiarized enough with the original that the beat is like hitting a brick wall. It comes out of nowhere and stops you in your tracks.
